  Memories Lost

She doesn't remember

the perfume he always brought home

on birthdays and anniversaries.

We would all laugh                     as he walked in the door

carrying the immediately recognizable box

wrapped by the counter girl         at the drugstore    near the train station.

She once could remember every misdemeanor

he committed             right back to their first date

and would recite them at will,

while we all cheered and laughed.

Now she has lost much of their life together

          and often doesn't even realize

                      it's missing

but the one thing she can't forget

will never forget

        is that he's gone now.
