Optimism in My Universe

 
     
  There are               cracks in the universe

              that allow                             my natural optimism

to bubble up through
                                          the smooth,
                            hard surface

of the reality that is snapped onto
              my existence
                            with the airless seal


of a Tupperware container.



I happen to be a big fan of

      reality

                                    fantasy does not resonate for me
 


        the way it did once
 

but

              reality seems
                            like it would be a
cold
unforgiving
place

                                          if my conviction that
things will be
                            better
                                          happier
                                                        prettier

that
everything will
                                work out in the long run

couldn't poke through
that glassy unmarred surface,

                            creating cracks in my universe
              where plans, hopes
 

maybe even dreams

                            can seep through with their froth

of possibilities.
